Troubleshooting Onity ILT Course
In Student Move in Day of Fall 2016, UMBC Residential Life had delays in checking students into their rooms. UMBC Residential Life uses the electronic locking system, Onity. Many of the student desk attendants did not know how to troubleshoot issues with Onity.

I created this training for EDUC 602, my first ISD course. When creating the lesson plan, I utilized Gagne's Nine Events of instruction as outlined by Professor Chuck Hodell. In events 5 (guided learning), 6 (eliciting performance), and 7 (feedback), I wanted the learners to interact with each other. During the analysis, I noticed that experience varied among the population. Some desk attendants were new and others were more experienced. In these stages, I had participants group together and solve real life scenarios.

This course was presented twice, each with different results. The first time this course was presented during the Summer of 2017, it was a success. The students were engaged, they were asking questions, and enjoyed the group exercises. However, when this course was presented during the Fall of 2017, it had the opposite reaction. It was difficult getting the students to participate and be engaged.

During the initial analysis report, I mentioned that engagement might be an issue. During the fall, desk attendants are in training for a week, sitting through back to back sessions all day long; whereas in the summer, training is not as intensive. As a result, an e-learning module was created.
